Keelan Whitmore
Keelan Whitmore, a native of Rockford, Illinois, trained at Rockford Dance Company, Interlochen Arts Academy, Joffrey Ballet School/New School University, and St. Mary’s College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts and received the Dean’s Professional Student Award.
Whitmore danced with Kansas City Ballet, Suzanne Farrell Ballet, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, and TanzTheater Münster, where he was honored with the 2019 Outstanding Artist Award from the Gesellschaft der Musik- und Theaterfreunde Münsters und des Münsterlandes.
As a choreographer, Whitmore has created works for BalletX, Joffrey Ballet of Chicago's Grainger Academy, TanzTheater Münster, Schauspiel Dortmund, and companies throughout the United States and Europe. His work Sea Change won Joffrey Ballet’s Winning Works Choreographic Competition, and his ballet Resilire, created for BalletX’s 20th Anniversary Season, received critical acclaim following its 2025 premiere in Philadelphia.
An accomplished educator, Whitmore has taught and created for organizations including Stanford University, Folkwang Universität der Künste, Alonzo King LINES Ballet Training Program, and the Edinburgh Dance Festival.
Whitmore joined BalletX in 2023 as the company’s first Rehearsal Director & Community Liaison, where he oversees artistic operations, community engagement initiatives, and the development of new works.
